Submission of Entries Opens for Andrei Stenin Contest 2021

The seventh Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest kicks off in Moscow. As per tradition, the submission of young photographers’ entries opens on the birthday of Rossiya Segodnya’s special photo correspondent after whom the contest was named.

Professional photographers aged 18-33 can apply through stenincontest.ru (http://stenincontest.ru) in Russian, English (https://stenincontest.com) and Chinese (https://cn.stenincontest.com). Photo series and single photos can be submitted in four categories Top News, Sport, My Planet, and Portrait: A Hero of Our Time. One single entry and one photo series can be submitted in each of the four categories. Submissions will be accepted until February 28, 2021.

In 2021, the prize fund will be 125,000, 100,000 and 75,000 rubles for the first, second and third places in each category. The winner of the highest Stenin contest award – the Grand Prix – will receive 700,000 rubles.

Of no less importance is the fact that young photojournalists will have the opportunity to show their works at Russian and international venues – a touring exhibition of the winning entries has become an integral part of the project and has been shown in dozens of cities in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Since 2018, the New York headquarters of the main international organization for strengthening peace and security in all countries, the United Nations (UN) has been one of the exhibit venues for Stenin contest winners. Since 2019, the contest’s exhibitions are also held at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Oksana Oleinik, the curator of the photo contest and the head of the Visual Projects Service at Rossiya Segodnya, commented the launch of the 2021 contest: “Launching another year of our contest is always like a shot of adrenalin for us. It means joyful anticipation of new works, new names, and new discoveries. This year, the start of the contest in such difficult conditions all over the world – during the COVID-19 pandemic – is also symbolic. New realities can change habits, dictate new conditions of work, but they cannot change basic values such as professionalism, the desire to create and share your ideas and vision of the world with a potential audience. Our contest is proceeding as planned. We believe it’s the same for our participants. We hope and wait for them to send new works, perspectives, and new topics. And, of course, we wish them good luck and victory!”

The 2020 Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest was supported by major Russian and international media, news agencies and the photo community. Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG), the China Daily web portal, the Al Mayadeen Arab media network, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world, were partners of several categories.

Photographer robbed at Dhanuri Wetlands . Shocking News

News Alert : Dhanuri wetland

This is not the first of its kind of incidence that has taken place in the area. Previously also it happened but still photography enthusiasts and wildlifers continue to visit. You might be feeling why we are posting this piece of information on DPC . The reason is to make you aware that it is very important to go in a group . You could choose to be part of a big group or a small group . Male group or a female group but please try to go in a group. And if you are going with a group of like minded people and people who know the place then safety is assured. Many people who started their photography in Delhi NCR with Photowalks with Delhi Photography Club (DPC ) now the importance of being in the company of like minded people and peer learning .

I am 100% sure that the gentleman who was robbed was neither a newcomer nor first timer to the place. As in the video you can see the attire. The only thing that was missing was the group . Many times we get carried away that we want to visit a place alone as when you go with a group there are chances of disturbing the birds. I would also agree but it is extremely important to be safe. And above all we should not forget that we carry expensive camera’s and lenses. Aa everyone these days everyone knows the monetary value of these products ie cameras and lenses. I am thankful to the god that despite having a revolver these robbers have not done any harm to the people. And please do remember the place is in Uttar Praresh (UP).

This morning while I was browsing through WhatsApp , I happened to see this disturbing Video shared in the DPC whatsapp group about Dhanuri Wetlands where a photographer has been robbed off. Yes he was carrying a Nikon D4S camera ( high end camera in Nikon) along with Zoom lens 200-500 mm. The incident that happened at (https://youtu.be/qxUY44gzha8 Link of the video) Dhanuri wetlands is shocking as DPC is also visiting this site as the site is very famous for Saras Cranes . Currently these Saras Cranes are hatching eggs and adding new members to the family which is obviously a photo moment rather a photo treasure for the photography enthusiasts .Dahnuri wetland is situated some 18 kms from greater noida and lies in the close proximity to Bhatta Parsol Village. The wetlands are very popular amongst enthusiasts in the last 3-4 years as this is the dwelling place for largest Saras cranes in Asia. This wetland has over 42 pairs of cranes and houses other varieties of birds in the area.

So my last request to all the hobbyists, Amateurs , Beginners, Enthusiasts and Professionals . It is extremely important to be safe . Try having a group and if you don’t have one, Please wait for a Photowalk or Photo trip being organised by someone experienced.Stay safe . Keep Clicking .
